Syed Kaleem has a Masters degree in English, a Masters degree in Public Administration, a bachelor’s degree in law, three years diploma in Cinematography and a diploma in Multimedia.
He has worked in various Doordarshan Kendras around the country for 14 long years. During his tenure at Doordarshan, he has produced more than 500 television programmes in various formats, apart from documentaries, teleplays and tele-films.
At EMRC, University of Mysore he has completed another 800 educational programmes which includes documentaries, educational lectures, E-Content development, Programmes for MOOCs and Learning Object Repositories. He has also directed 60 episode short series in Kannada literature.
He is a recipient of two National Awards for his documentaries Kodavas-the high Landers and DGWT- A cause for concern. He has served as Director of EMRC Mysore and EMRC Odisha for more than 5 years.
He also served as Chairman and Head of M.Sc. (Electronic Media) PG Course for five years and was member of BOE and BOS of Electronic Media and animation course of university of Mysore, Mangalore University and Calicut University.
With 30 years of experience as Media Professional and Academician in the field of Electronic Media Production and Multimedia studies, he is regularly invited to deliver lectures in many institutions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh
Starting early into theatre and creative arts under the watchful eye of Mr Mime Ramesh of Rangayana, Mysore, Islahuddin NS has written, directed and acted in a number of plays. With four gold medals in MA Journalism and another Master’s degree in filmmaking from England, Islahuddin has also learnt the intricacies of storytelling and direction under the renowned theatre director, Mr Christian Stuckl of Volks Theatre in Munich.
Islahuddin briefly worked as the Head of Special Segments in NEWS9, before foraying into a professional filmmaking career spanning more than a decade. He has directed Ad Films, documentaries, corporate films, promo films and TV shows. He has also worked as the Creative Content Manager in Qyuki which is the brainchild of the renowned Director Shekhar Kapur and Music Maestro, AR Rahman.
A University Grants Commission of India, NET certified Lecturer, Islahuddin occasionally teaches filmmaking and Advertisement at Universities and filmmaking workshops.
He is currently writing and directing a multi-lingual movie based on Kannada Sahitya Akademi award winning story titled ‘Anna’ (trans. ‘Rice’). He is also in the process of writing an international animated web-series.
